Rapid Progress In Kadhimain Holy Courtyard Infrastructure Project

The Kadhimain Holy Courtyard infrastructure project is still being worked on at a brisk pace by the KHS Engineering Affairs Department staff.
Eng. Mazin K. Mahdi, the project's supervisor, talked to the KHS website about these efforts, saying: “Under the guidance of the KHS Secretary General, Dr. Haider H. Al-Shammari, the KHS Secretariat General has been keen to carry out the infrastructure project, one of the vital and important projects, due to the fact that it creates new paths for all services and systems throughout the old courtyard, which is estimated to be 8,000 m2.”
“After the finalization of the architectural and construction plans”, he continued “the project saw the removal of the old cladding layer and the marble, and excavation of new tunnels. Then treatment is applied by using insulation materials, followed by installing rebar reinforcement steel structure and casting concrete.”
“The main tunnels, which were dug 2.1 m deep by 2.3 m wide, and the sub-tunnels 2.1 m deep by 1.6 m wide, will be connected to the tunnels system of the outer courtyard of Al-Murad Gate, which will comprise an electric power system, lighting system, central cooling system, drinking water system (RO), rainwater system, communication system, cameras and audio systems, and Optical cable system, as well as supplying the Kadhimain Holy Courtyard with all modern necessary equipment.”
Eng. Mazin Kadhim also mentioned that, taking into consideration keeping the smooth going of movement of visitors to get into the Holy Shrine, a plan has been developed to implement the project over several stages, where the area currently being worked on is estimated to be 3000 m2.
“We would like to explain that” he added, “the achievement rate for the infrastructure works has reached 18%.” He furthermore emphasized that the project is being carried out under the supervision and with the expertise of the KHS Engineering and Technical Staff.
